Who We Are
The CELA Foundation (also conducting activities as the Resource Library for the Environment and the Law) was established in 1993 and has long supported CELA’s research and educations work on environmental law and justice issues. In 2019 the Foundation formally changed its names to the Canadian Environmental Law Foundation, and increased its focus on supporting those efforts by CELA.
In particular, the Foundation now provides an extremely valuable sponsorship of our Articling program. This program, in addition to several law student internships and other Foundation-funded projects to retain and train junior legal counsel, enables CELA to train the next generation of environmental public interest lawyers.
The CELA Foundation continues to provide extensive resources to the public and the website hosts and maintains several projects that support the environmental law and policy community. These include the Environmental History Program, featuring an extensive range of online resources tracking the history of environmental law and justice in Canada, and is the virtual host to several collections of significance that lost their original online home. We also continue to maintain the in-house library at our Toronto office with the catalogue searchable online.
